As mentioned before Google Trends can be used also to track other issues than simple searches. Google Trends allows to track and map internet search trends. One of the latest examples in early warning related to H1N1 (Swine Flu) can be seen here. Certainly there is still a big step to do in correlating the data between searches and actual reported cases of influenza, nevertheless given the proximity of the trends in hindsight, Google can most likely in the future be used also to predict future flu outbreaks.
