The ISO/IEC 38500:2008 Corporate governance of information technology standard, provides a framework for effective governance of IT to assist those at the highest level of organizations to understand and fulfill their legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations in respect of their organizations’ use of IT. To wonder what is the real impact of this standard, compaired to CobIT look up this query in Google Trends. There is therefore a still long way for ISO 38500.
ISO 38500 and CobIT - which IT governance standard?

Too many people fail to read the clear guidance in ISO 38500 which says that top level governance should be underpinned by selection of appropriate frameworks. ISO 38500 is not an alternative to CobiT - it is a complement to it, providing a framework for engaging those at the top of the organisation, who are not generally involved in implementation of the more detailed processes described by CobiT.
What is the point of comparing search patterns on a topic that has been around for more than 10 years and is known by hundreds of thousands to the search patterns on a topic that is just a year old and is in its first wave of awareness building? Does this simply prove that CobiT is old and ISO 38500 is new?
Perhaps your energy would be better spent explaining why after so many years of CobiT, failure rates for IT projects have hardly changed and continue to be highly unacceptable. I would contend that it is not because CobiT itself is incorrect, but because it has not carried the guidance for the top level leaders that is expressed in ISO 38500.
